Nnimmo Bassey

Nnimmo Bassey (b 1958, Nigeria) is an architect, environmental protection activist, poet, pastor and author.

He is currently the director of the ecological think tank Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) and a member of the steering committee for Oilwatch International. He has been chair of Friends of the Earth International (2008–2012) and director of the Nigerian environmental protection organisation Environmental Rights Action (1993–2013).

He has received many awards for his environmental protection work, including the Right Livelihood Prize in 2010 and the Rafto Prize in 2012. Bassey was named an ‘environmental hero’ by Time Magazine in 2009.

His latest book is Oil Politics: Echoes of Ecological War (2016).
