The World on Saturday: Bitter friends

On January 1, 2024, Saudi Arabia, the United Emirates, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt and Argentina was welcomed into the bosom of the BRICS association (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa). At the same time, Russia will take over the leadership of the organization that challenges the West's world dominance and aims to free itself from the dollar as a trading currency. These eleven countries make up nearly half the world’s population. What are the potential outcomes of this pact?

Journalist and media manager Kjersti Løken Stavrum leads the debate along with researcher and author of books on India, Elisabeth Eide, former director of CMI and Middle East expert Gunnar M Sørbø, and NUPI researcher and Russia expert Julie Wilhelmsen.

The event will be in Norwegian.
