Judging a book by its cover

We see book covers in the shops, on the Internet and in newspapers, as larger and smaller icons aiming to tell us about the book. But what is a good book cover? Is it an independent work of art? Is it an advertisement? Should it reflect the contents or promote the author? There are plenty of reasons to talk about book covers and give them a critical evaluation.

Elizabeth Sellevold has worked with books for over thirty years and is currently the publishing manager of Vigmostad & Bjørke. Simone Stibbe is the publishing manager of Skald forlag, a publishing house that has received many design awards for its books.

Yngve Knausgård is the communications manager for LitFestBergen and himself a publisher at Pelikanen forlag. They show examples of what they believe are classics, as well as their own productions. T

he conversation will be moderated by the daily manager of LitFestBergen, Hjørdis Losnedahl.
