A life in western Norway

All western Norwegians know what happens when you write about something to do with the west of Norway. When you write about something you know about, something close to you. It can be great and good literature. Indeed, it may even end in a Nobel Prize.

Odd W. Surén and Tormod Haugland have known each other well since they were young, and both have had varied literary careers.

Odd W. Surén made his debut in 1985, and as an author of novels and short stories has had an extensive critically acclaimed literary production. He has also been active as a literary critic. Tormod Haugland has also had an extensive literary production, writing novels, poetry and essays, and he has been director of Skrivekunstakademiet, the college for creative writing.

In this conversation between Surén and Haugland (both from the district immediately north of Bergen) we will look closely at what it means to be an author from western Norway, and at differences and similarities between them as writers. Brit Bildøen, from a district a little further north from Bergen, will moderate the conversation.
