Óscar Martínez

Óscar Martínez (b 1983, El Salvador) is a journalist and author.

He is the editor of the Salvadoran online newspaper El Faro. He has written numerous books; the most recent is The Dead and the Journalist, soon to be translated into Norwegian. As a journalist he has primarily covered violence and organised crime, and the book reflects on ethical dilemmas related to this.

In 2016 he won the international Press Freedom Award given by the Committee to Protect Journalists, and in 2023 he was awarded Deutsche Welle’s Press Freedom Award.
