Ottar Grepstad

Ottar Grepstad (b 1953, Norway) is a non-fiction author who has been involved in several cultural institutions. He is known as a ‘national language strategist’ and is central in promoting Nynorsk writing.

Grepstad has been director of Nynorsk Kultursentrum. He founded and was editor of the encyclopedia Allkunne, was editor and assistant publishing manager of Det Norske Samlaget, has been a member of the Norwegian Cultural Council, board chair of the Language Council, editor of Syn og Segn and has held several political offices.

Grepstad has written many non-fiction books, mostly on language-related issues. The most recent, from 2022, is Brent ord: Bokbål mot språk i Noreg 1912–2005 (Burnt words: Book fires about language in Norway 1912–2005).
