Jonny Steinberg

Jonny Steinberg (b 1970, South Africa) is an academic and author. He has been a lecturer at the Centre for African Studies at the University of Oxford and currently teaches at Yale University in the USA and Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research in Johannesburg.

He is known for writing about South Africa after apartheid and the transition to democracy. He is also a regular columnist in the South African newspaper Sunday Times.

In 2013 he was the first winner of the Windham Campbell Prize, and in 2023 he is again in the news with his book Winnie & Nelson: Portrait of a Marriage.
