We share a sense of humour, anyway (digital)

The stricter infection control measures adopted by the Norwegian authorities for the Bergen region from 7-14 February mean that LitFestBergen must cancel all physical events. All ticket purchases for physical events will be refunded. Streaming tickets costing NOK 40.00 for this event will be available at ticketco.no. A number of programme items will be shown free on YouTube.

Authors Gunnhild Øyehaug and Olaug Nilssen, both resident in Bergen, each made their literary debut in 1998 ­– with poetry collection Slaven av blåbæret and novel Innestengt i udyr respectively. Regarded by many as part of the same “west Norwegian, New Norwegian women” camp, they have known each other for half a lifetime and followed each other’s work closely. Their publications this autumn – Nilssen’s Yt etter evne, få etter behov and Øyehaug’s Vonde blomar – have confirmed their central places in Norway’s literary landscape. But what do they have in common, and what separates them?

How does an author develop? Is it the literature you read, changes to your life, your view of society or just “something that happens”?  Nilssen and Øyehaug meet fellow author Eivind Riise Hauge for a conversation on what influences the literary path you choose to follow.
