Dara McAnulty

Dara McAnulty (b 2004, Northern Ireland) is an author, naturalist and environmental activist. He has many followers on social media, where he shares his love of nature and talks openly about living with autism. In 2017, he received the BBC Springwatch Unsprung Hero Prize in 2017 and was named Animal Hero of the Year by the Daily Mirror in 2018.

He made his literary debut in May 2020 with Diary of a Young Naturalist, and became the youngest author ever to win the Wainwright Prize for this book. He is also the youngest author long-listed for the Baillie Gifford Prize for non-fiction.

Dara’s writing is beautiful. He’s remarkably astute and candid. He’s obviously going to be extraordinary whatever he decides to do.
