Niillas Holmberg

Niillas Holmberg (b 1990, Finland) is a Sami musician, writer, and actor. Throughout his career, he has been a vocal champion of Sami and indigenous rights.

He is the author of six books of poetry, which have been translated into more than ten languages. In 2015, he was the Sami nominee for the Nordic Council Literature Prize with the poetry collection amas amas amasmuvvat (later translated into Norwegian by Rawdna Carita Eira, under the title så den fremmede ikke blir mer fremmed).

As a musician, he works as a vocalist, guitarist, composer and lyricist; across all genre boundaries his artistic work demonstrates a deep commitment to the environment and indigenous culture, and is characterised by a willingness to speak out against oppression.
