Lars Saabye Christensen

Lars Saabye Christensen (b 1953, Norway) is one of Norway’s leading contemporary writers. His recent trilogy Byens spor (Echoes of the City) was hailed on its appearance in English translation as “a jewel of modern Norwegian literature.” His novels have been published in 36 countries.

He was born in Oslo and lived for many years in northern Norway.

Saabye Christensen has published more than fifty books. Among the best-known are Beatles (winner of the Cappelen Prize) and Halvbroren (The Half Brother, winner of The Nordic Council Literature Prize and shortlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award). 

He is a member of the Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature, and was made a Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav for his services to Norwegian literature. In 2008, the French government recognised his contribution to world literature by making him a Chevalier dans L’Ordre des Arts et Lettres.
